ATLANTA, Feb. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Caraustar Industries, Inc., one of North America's largest producers of uncoated recycled boxboard (URB), has recently achieved certification in the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)™ Chain of Custody Standard for the following mills: Austell Boxboard Mill #2 in Austell, GA, Carotell Paperboard in Taylors, SC, Cincinnati Paperboard in Cincinnati, OH and Tacoma Paperboard in Tacoma, WA.  Other Caraustar mills received their certification earlier, Austell Boxboard Mill #1 and Sweetwater Paperboard.

Caraustar is pleased to now have all six URB mills certified. This certification supports the continuation of sustainable fiber sourcing as the mills produce a 100% recycled paperboard product. A variety of grades and major markets are served from the mills, among them folding cartons, tubes and cores, gypsum facing papers, and specialty products.

"We pride ourselves on being an environmentally responsible manufacturer, and we are particularly gratified to be recognized with the FSC® certification that distinguishes our products in the market.  Our customers can be assured we are doing what is best for the environment and for their requirements," said Greg Bartlett, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Mill Group.

These mills, and now all Caraustar URB mills, also received certification to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) ® Chain of Custody Standard.  By achieving SFI certification, Caraustar joins a growing community of companies, land owners, and social and environmental organizations all committed to improving forest practices on a global scale.

FSC® and SFI® are the leading organizations globally for promoting responsible forest management.  Chain of custody is the path taken by raw material harvested from a certified source through processing and manufacturing until it becomes a final product ready for the end customer.

Caraustar Industries, Inc. is one of North America's largest integrated manufacturers of 100% recycled paperboard and converted paperboard products.  The company is a socially responsible corporation, is committed to environmentally sound practices and is dedicated to providing customers with outstanding value through innovative products and services.  Caraustar has developed its leadership position in the industry through diversification and integration from raw materials to finished products.  Caraustar serves the four principal recycled boxboard product end-use markets:  tubes and cores; folding cartons; gypsum facing paper and specialty paperboard products.  For additional information on Caraustar, please visit the company's website at www.caraustar.com.
